| 1.0_ General Palm OS device Questions | ||||
| 1.1_ RESETS | ||||
| 1.1.1_ Soft Reset | ||||
| Press the reset button, located in the small hole on the back of the PalmPilot, once. | ||||
| 1.1.2_ Warm Reset | ||||
| Press the reset button while holding the UP button. Performing a warm reset bypasses any type of system "extensions" that you have installed. This will sometimes also resolve issues with errant programs that cause the "boot loop" where you keep seeing the "Welcome to PalmPilot" message over and over again. |
| 1.1.3_ Hard Reset | ||||
| Press the reset button while holding the green power button. You will be prompted for verification. |
| IMPORTANT NOTE: This WILL delete everything installed on your PalmPilot. You should use this reset only as a last resort. You should regularly HotSync your Palm OS device. |
| 1.2_ HELPFUL HINTS | ||||
| 1.2.1_ Find | ||||
| You can easily speed up a Find using the silkscreen button, if you know what application the data you're looking for is in. Simply launch Find from the application containing the data. |
| 1.2.2_ If your batteries have just died.... | ||||
| You will lose all power to your PalmPilot. Remember to set the correct date before hotsyncing your data back in. Otherwise, all of the old alarms stored in your PalmPilot will go off at once. |
| 1.2.3_ Using HotSync to restore data... | ||||
| Before initiating a HotSync to restore your PalmPilot select Custom, under the HotSync menu, and set all the conduits to "Desktop overwrites PalmPilot" This will restore all of your built-in application data. You will now have to manually install all of your applications. |
| 2.0_ Questions about us and our Software | ||||
| 2.1_ POWER MEDIA, INC. or STAND ALONE, INC.? | ||||
| If you've ever been into a Software store or looked in a PDA Direct or ClubPDA catalog, you may have seen our products under the brand name of Power Media, Inc. Rest assured that these products are exactly the same as ours. Power Media is our official publisher, and they are responsible for putting together the boxes and manuals that go with our products to retail and mail order outlets. |
| 2.2_ Downloading, Installing and Registering Queries | ||||
| 2.2.1_ How do I install applications? | ||||
| First, make sure that you are using an extraction utility to allow you to decompress the file you have downloaded. You will need a program such as WinZip if you are using a Windows based machine, or a program like ZipIt or Stuffit Expander if you are running a Macintosh based system. Once the archive is decompressed, there will be a folder containing a .PRC file. The .PRC file is the actual application file. The easiest way to install applications is by using the Palm Installation Tool which came with your Palm OS. For instructions on using this tool, please refer to your Palm OS manual. For more information on downloading or installing Stand Alone, Inc. programs, please consult our online Installation Walkthrough help page. |
| 2.2.2_ How do I register Stand Alone Products? | ||||
| Web- You can go to our web site and fill out our
Online Orderform. We have a stronghold SSL (secure) server so that no one can access your information, including your credit card information. Just enter your name and address information into the form, enter in your credit card information, and check off the products you want. You will receive your registration code within your browser window shortly after submitting your order, and a registration confirmation email will be sent to you within one to two business days. |
| Email- Just email us all your information (name, email address, credit card, applications requested and PDA type) to registrations@standalone.com. Again, we'll email everything back to you within about 24-48 hours. |
| Fax- You can fax us your information (name as it is entered into your Palm OS device, email address, credit card, and products wanted). We'll email or fax you back your information. (773) 477-2579. |
| Phone- You can call up with a credit card and get passwords directly over the phone. (773) 477-2492. |
| Mail- You can mail us a check or money order (funds must be drawn from a US Bank.) Please enclose your email address or phone number where you can be contacted to receive your registration code. We are located at: Stand Alone, Inc. 3862 N. Lincoln Ave Chicago, IL 60613 |
| PalmPilotGear HQ- You can register all of our Palm OS products through PalmPilotGear HQ. However, it may take a little longer for you to receive your passwords this way. |
| However you decide to register please make sure to include your name, the way it's entered in the Enter Password section of the application you are registering, so that we can generate an accurate password for you. This can be found either in any of our registration screens, or when you perform a HotSync. (see 2.2.3 of this FAQ) |
| 2.2.3_ How do the passwords work? | ||||
| All of our passwords are based on the name listed when you perform a HotSync. You do not need to perform a HotSync in order to find this name. You have two options: |
| Go into the application you are registering and select Enter Password. | ||||
| On the Palm OS, go to the section that lists all of your applications and tap on the HotSync icon. In the upper righthand corner it will tell you how your name is entered. |
| In order for us to allow our customers a chance to demo our software for 30 days, we must use this password system. If you do not submit the correct HotSync name, then the password we email back to you will not be correct. Please keep this in mind when you register, as it will take longer for us to issue you a correct password if you do not give us the correct HotSync name the first time around. |
| 2.2.4_ What's the best way to contact Stand Alone? | ||||
| If you have comments, suggestions, or a product idea, the best way to contact us is through email at info@standalone.com. This is easiest for us and will guarantee you get a prompt response. If you don't have access to email, you can call us at (773) 477-2492, or fax us, at (773) 477-2579. |

| Yes, there is! Please be sure to include the name of the application, what of Palm OS you are using and your email address. |
2.3.3_ I registered online at PalmPilotGear HQ and still haven't received my password. What should I do? |
| Please remember that it takes a little longer to receive your information when you register anywhere other than with us directly (typically two to three business days.) |
| If it has been more than four days since you placed you order, then please send us an email including the following information: |
| Your full name | ||||
| Your PalmPilotGear SW number (ie: SW12345) | ||||
| The date you registered | ||||
| Your email address | ||||
| With this information, we will be able to locate your registration information and generate your password(s) for you. |
2.3.4_ My system crashed and now my Password Store/Workout Tracker information is gone! |
| How to restore Password or Workout Data lost due to a system crash from a dead battery or hard reset: |
| You MUST be using HotSync version 2.1 or later | ||||
| Using the install tool, install the "Passwords.pdb" "Workout Tracker Data.pdb" file, which is in your Palm backup folder on you PC. |
| If you have any further questions on backing up your information, please refer to your HotSync manual. |
2.3.5_ I have Call Tracker Desktop on my PC, and I keep getting a "Sync20.dll not found" error. What should I do? |
| Make sure that your are executing the version of Call Tracker from the Palm OS directory. (Usually: C:\Palm\CallTrak.exe) |
2.3.6_ I have Call Tracker Desktop on my PC, and when I try to use the Open option an error occurs. What should I do? |
| First, make sure that your are using HotSync 2.1 or higher. | ||||
| Second, please restart the HotSync application on your PC. Now, perform a HotSync with Call Tracker for the Palm OS. You should now be able to use the Open feature on your desktop. |
| If this does not work, then we ask that you either submit a Bug Report or send us an email (see section 2.2.4 of this FAQ.) |
| 2.3.7_ How does this "demo period" work? | ||||
| All of our applications run on a 30-day demo. This means that, for 30 days you can try out the application for free. Most of our applications run the full versions in the demo period. However, a small few (such as Dragon Hunter Pinball) have certain restrictions. |
| After the 30-day demo period is up, the application expires. This means that you must either register the application with us in order to regain access to the program, or you can remove it from your Palm OS. |
| 2.3.8_ What is your policy on upgrades? | ||||
| Unless otherwise stated in the manual of the application, all upgrades are free. Once you have registered, simply download the updated version onto your Palm OS and enter your password once again. |
2.3.9_ Someone from SAI gave me a temporary password that does not work. What should I do? |
| The temporary passwords we give out to reset the demo period, are based on the current date. You can either: |
| Send us an email and let us know which day you plan on entering the password. OR |
| You can set the date back one day on your Palm OS, enter the password and set your date back to the normal setting. |
| 2.3.10_ What happens to the application after 30 days? | ||||
| After 30 days the application will expire. As long as you do not delete the application from your system completely, you will not lose any information. After the application expires you can either register the application or remove it from your system. |
| 2.3.11_ If I register will I lose my information? | ||||
| As long as you have not deleted the application from your system entirely, you will not lose any information. The password we give you when you register will simply inform the application that it has been registered. Other than that, registering does not change or interfere with anything else on your Palm OS. |
